Self Education: A vital tool for Economic Growth, Community Development and Nation Building.

Preparing to speak in this topic I decided to check what education means and this is what I found;

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits.

I was astonished when I saw the last part of the definition "the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits."

I also went back to my bag to check my degree graduation video only to hear the vice chancellor of my school say that "I have been found worthy both in character and in learning.

And I asked myself, who taught you character in this school, even the learning.

We just rushed to class to take attendance.

I realized that many things that brought me to where I am today were things I learnt outside school. They are things I learnt on my own from the trainings I subjected myself to.

To have a better economy in our country, we don't have to be depend solely on the formal rather self education should be encouraged.

What is self education?

Self-education is education without the guidance of masters (such as teachers and professors) or institutions (such as schools).

My definition of self education is the education one gives to him/herself to stand out among his/her equals outside the school system.

A lot of people drop reading immediately they finish out of university thanking God that they won't have to read again.

While great men and woman in life are addicted readers who even in their wealth still find reading as the most important thing in their lives.

They have so educated themselves that they can't do anything without searching out answers.

I speak to teens, I read everyday to find ways to communicate well with them and their parents. I want to be the best man that would profer solution for their challenges but to do that, I have to self educate me.

When we encourage our male Children on the importance of formal education and the need to do the Extra which is to self educate themselves outside the school, this will increase the number of responsible fathers in the furture and an economy we can be proud of.

Yes!!!

It has to start now.

The Bible said, "train up a child (MALECHILD) in the way he should go, and when he grows he will never depart from it". (Emphasis)

Great men in life were self educated and they are still doing so.

Let us give more attention to the self education of our male children.
